The competition between Apple, Microsoft and Google is going to rage pretty seriously by the end of the year when all the latest versions of the operating system finally hit the market.
Currently, the lineup of mobile phones and features of the new Windows Phone 7 is certainly something that people should look forward too. With devices from LG, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and HTC underway, there is already a lot to look forward to. Now, it has just been confirmed that even Dell will be joining in on the fun. The first Dell made smart phone for the WP7 mobile platform, the Dell Lightning, has been leaked in images recently and from what we have seen it is one sleek looking device.
The only thing that takes us a back with the new Dell unit is the portrait slider layout. While it certainly works, it does not look as good as the traditional side slider phones. At least the rest of the Dell Lightning case looks like something you would be willing to display on your desk.
In terms of hardware, the new device matches up to all the requirements set by Microsoft for the new OS. The handset would come with support for GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi, 3G networks and more.
The big excitement over Windows Phone 7 is mostly due to the fact that this is the first time that Microsoft has designed an OS that is dynamic and looks fun to use. They have also done away with their old habit of sticking to resistive touch screen technology and creating operating systems such as the older WinMo 6.5.
Both the new OS and the phones that will be running it are still under development and many expect the first WP7 handset to be in shelves by later this year.
